Shelley
Shelley’s first encounter with Yoga was in High School. Knowing hardly anything
about it, she signed up for a class to make up for missing Gym credits and loved
it. However, life took her in a different direction and she couldn’t practice regularly
until nine years ago, when she met Yoga teacher, Lori Ruben, trained in Hatha Yoga
at Kirpalu. Later, when she joined YogaScape where she met her teacher, Amy Pearce-Hayden,
her practice hit a physical and spiritual turning point which led her to the decision
to become a Yoga teacher. She completed the 200 hour Teacher Training in 2011.
"My interest in Yoga stemmed from the idea of mind and body integration. The calmness
and single focus that the asanas bring to the brain along with physical benefits
of a coordinated, graceful and well-functioning body are an irresistible draw. I
feel a strong connection to the philosophy. Although it’s about 2000 since Patangali
codified Yoga in the Yoga Sutras, this practice has enormous relevance today. The
practice of Yoga allows me to create peaceful inner space; to heal the places that
are emotionally stuck and perhaps even transform some of my more limiting beliefs."
Shelley is trained in Raja Hatha Yoga. Her classes are generally taught in a vinyasa
format - linking poses with a dynamic chaturanga/up dog/downdog sequence and emphasize
correct alignment. Shelley loves meeting people where they are, no matter what fitness
level or physical ability and helping them to explore and expand their limits, while
working at the correct pace for each student.
